Who doesn’t love holidays, pets and deals!  We do and our Tail’s End Thrift Store will have some great deals for you the entire month of May!  All this month, all Holiday Items (including holiday pet items) will be 50% off.  We also have lots of new pet sweaters and any with a pink sticker will only be $3.  So come on out for some great shopping at 271 Central Plank Road (Hwy 9), Wetumpka – the Tail’s End Thrift Store is co-located at the opposite end of the parking lot from our Shelter.

And if you might be interested in doing some volunteering for what we think is a very worthy cause, just talk to any of our Thrift Store Volunteers while you are there. We love our extended Thrift Store Volunteer family and hope it can grow.  Volunteering in our Tail’s End Thrift Store is truly helping our animals as all the proceeds go to the Shelter so we can do more now and into the future for all the pets who need our help.

Recently World Veterinary Day was recognized, though we think that should be 365 days/year.  Since the vast majority of us were not visiting our Vet on Saturday, please take a minute to send a note or make a call or just remember next time you are at your Vet to thank them for all they do!  Veterinarians are pretty special medical experts when you think of it – they are general practitioners, surgeons, parasitologists, anesthesiologists, orthopedists, neurologists, behaviorists, oncologists, epidemiologists, gerontologists, dentists and so much more all wrapped up into one person.  And, oh by the way, they have to have that knowledge for more than one species and about breeds of these species that may have very specific medical needs and challenges.  Please never short-change the medical knowledge and skills of your Veterinarian as they are ‘doctors’ who have made it through a very rigorous, competitive & demanding educational hurdle to attain the title of ‘DVM.’  And for those who don’t have pets – you need to also be thankful for all those in the Veterinary profession as they keep our food supply safe, see to the welfare of animals in our food production system, zoos, natural environments and further protect us from disease and issues affecting animals and humans together through research and hands-on work.

And while you are thanking your Veterinarian, don’t forget their staffs!  Last week was also Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week and any successful professional will tell you that their success is dependent on the team that supports them.  Veterinary Technicians are highly skilled medical professionals in their own right and often don’t get the recognition they deserve.  Besides all of the ‘medical’ tasks the perform, they and their Veterinarians also give compassion and love in huge doses on a daily basis.  The care and compassion we see inside the Veterinary field for your pets, and all the pets they haven’t even met yet, is truly something special and we thank all who work so diligently helping so many pets in need.
