Laughter, games and shared memories filled The Smith Center on Friday as the Autauga/Western Elmore Arc welcomed individuals, families, staff, volunteers and community supporters for its annual Family and Friends Field Day.
The event celebrated the people at the heart of the organization while highlighting its mission of promoting inclusion and enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Autauga and Elmore counties.
The day featured games, food, fellowship and opportunities for families and community members to spend time together in a welcoming environment.
“This event gives us the opportunity to come together and celebrate what makes this center so very special,” Autauga/Western Elmore Arc President Johannah Munck said. “The individuals that we serve, their families, our staff, and many people in our community that support our mission.”
A special recognition was also held for Executive Director Jess Butrica, honoring her years of leadership and the lasting impact she has had on the organization and the individuals it serves.
“We hope that you know how grateful we are of you, Jess, for everything you have poured into this organization, the lives you touched, the relationships that you built, and the foundation that you created will not be forgotten,” Munck said.
The celebration was made even more meaningful through the generosity of Judge Jessica Sanders, who donated 80 meal tickets so the individuals served by the organization could enjoy lunch during the event.
Family and Friends Field Day serves as an opportunity to recognize not only the individuals the organization supports, but also the families, volunteers and community partners who help make its mission possible. As laughter echoed across The Smith Center throughout the day, the event reflected the power of inclusion, friendship and a community committed to ensuring every person feels valued and supported.
