The Prattville Police Department held a press conference on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 3:40 P.M. at the Public Safety Building in downtown Prattville. Police provided an update on the open investigation on the hit-and-run incident that occured on September 4, 2022 on Gin Shop Hill Road that resulted in the death of Perez Bowman.

PPD Chief Mark Thompson opened the press conference by welcoming the media and then turned the mic over to Captain Jeff Hassell, the Division Commander over this investigation. Hassell discussed his gratitude to the investigators and police who have worked tirelessly on the case, saying “A lot of long hours were put in by these officers and a lot of resources were used during this investigation. We actually had investigators walking block to block downtown looking for evidence.” Hassell thanked the victim’s, Perez Bowman, father for working with the PPD and entrusting the department to bring justice for his son, knowing the investigation would be a lengthy one.

The PPD announced that they have identified the driver as 29 year old, black male, Robert Marshall, Jr., who also goes by the name “Rylo.” Marshall was driving a white, 2006, BMW X5, and the vehicle should have damage located on the front driver’s side. The police have obtained a warrant and are in the process of locating Marshall.

Thompson then addressed the rumors and speculation circulating across social media discussing the false information being shared on “Uncut” pages across Facebook and more. It is protocol for the department to not release names of victims until the family has been properly notified. Thompson said “We don’t release details of the crime, especially to uncut and social media. When we have enough to make a case we then release the information to the real media. Again, myself or my department will never answer to social media or uncut, on details while we are investigating a crime. If it concerns the public, we will let them know.”
