Attempted Murder Investigation and Subsequent Arrest of Angelo Dishon Myles on April 17

From: Chief P.K. Johnson

            Millbrook Police Department

On Friday, April 17, 2020 at approximately 6:40 PM, Millbrook police officers responded to multiple 911 calls to the 4200 block of Oak Tree Road with regard to a subject shot. Upon arrival officers located Ryan Edward Fales, a 43 year old Millbrook resident, lying in the roadway, suffering from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to his upper torso. Mr. Fales was treated at the scene by Millbrook fire rescue personnel and transported to Baptist South Emergency Room in critical condition.

Millbrook police officers were able to make contact with the alleged offender, as he exited his residence, which was near the scene. The subject, later identified as Angelo Dishon Myles, a 35 year old Millbrook resident, was taken into custody without incident. Myles was transported to the Millbrook Police Department, where he was later placed under arrest being charged with Attempted Murder. Myles was placed in the Elmore County Jail, where he remains under no bond. A bond will be determined at such time that an arrest warrant is obtained in this case.

“This is yet another example of the senseless violence that plagues our society today.” Chief Johnson said. “Apparently these two individuals have been engaged in an ongoing dispute for some time and it came to a violent conclusion last night.”

“The sad thing is that these two men are neighbors, who literally live across the street from one another. Several bystanders at the scene told officers that the two have been at odds for several weeks prior to last night’s violence. Allegedly threats of violence had been made prior to last night. It appears the two were arguing and exchanging threats across the roadway. It became heated and the two met in the roadway, at which time Myles produced a handgun, firing at least two rounds, one of which struck the victim in his upper torso. Mr. Fales remains in Baptist South in critical condition.”

“We are fortunate in our community, in that we don’t have a lot of violent crimes committed in our city each year. For the most part people handle their differences without engaging in this type of violent behavior. In the society that we live in today people are entirely too quick to grab a firearm to resolve a dispute, not understanding or in many cases not caring that the end result could be death,” said Johnson.

“While I don’t advocate any type of violence, I miss the good old days when people settled their differences with their hands. You might get banged up a little bit, but no one died. In many cases the two parties settled their differences and remained friends. Today people want to pick up a firearm. It’s senseless. Our citizens don’t want this violence in our community, nor do we,” said Chief Johnson.

“We intend to do everything that we can to see this offender prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and can only hope it serves as an example that this is not the way to resolve a dispute. Violence disrupts lives and costs people their freedom. Nobody wins!”
