Saturday, Jan. 25, American Legion Post 133 of Millbrook held a grand celebration to recognize its 50th anniversary.

Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley was present to read a proclamation in honor of the 50th Birthday of Post 133, thanking the members for their long years of service. “We are truly blessed by the American Legion Post 133 in our community,” Mayor Kelley said.

Legion members and friends gathered at the post for visiting, memories and celebration, looking back on the years of service the organization has provided. Supporting veterans is a big push for the group, but also raising funds for military members’ children to attend college through the Legacy Scholarship. For the past several years, the Post has taken a check to the National Conference in the amount of $10,133. Throughout the year they hold Poker Runs, Dinners and other fundraising opportunities to raise that impressive amount.

The Legion today is led by Commander Leslie Looney, and former commanders and officers were in attendance for the celebration Saturday.

Another big area of participation is community service, through a wide array of events. The Legion is a huge supporter of the annual Millbrook Police Department Operation Blue Santa, which gives presents to needy children in our area. They are also one of the first to jump up to help when they learn of an area veteran in need. Financially, or through hard work and sweat equity, the crew will arrive and get the job done.

Millbrook is truly blessed by the membership and ranks of the American Legion Post 133. Thank you for all that you do throughout the year to provide for and protect veterans, members of the community and patriotism. Your continued service to your country does not go unnoticed.

Don’t forget Steak Night held each Friday! The public is welcome to this event, which offers a great steak meal at a very affordable price.
