Vehicle theft leads to Three Arrests in Millbrook; More expected Chief says

FROM CHIEF P.K. JOHNSON

MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT

MILLBROOK – On April 9, 2024, the Millbrook Police Department received a complaint of a vehicle theft, which occurred at a business in the 2300 block of Main Street. The victim stated that she’d left her vehicle at the business to have repair work done. When the victim went to retrieve the vehicle from the business, she discovered that it had been stolen.

Upon review of video surveillance footage from the business, it was discovered that several male subjects entered the property on April 5, 2024, making entry into the victim’s vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, at which time they discovered the keys were inside the vehicle. Surveillance footage captured the individuals leaving the business in the victim’s vehicle. A report was completed and forwarded to the department’s Criminal Investigations Unit for investigation. The vehicle was later recovered in the City of Millbrook, having been involved in a traffic collision and abandoned. The vehicle had not been reported as stolen at the time of its recovery.

Pursuant to an investigation, Millbrook detectives were able to identify (3) of the suspects believed responsible for the theft of the vehicle in this case. On April 9, 2024, Millbrook detectives placed Bunny B. Jackson III, an 18-year-old Millbrook resident, under arrest for Theft of Property 1st Degree. Jackson was processed and transported to the Elmore County Jail.

On April 10, 2024, Millbrook detectives arrested a second suspect, Terry Orlando Long II, an 18-year-old Millbrook resident, in connection with this case. Long was also charged with Theft of Property 1st Degree. Long was placed in the Elmore County Jail.

On April 16, 2024, Millbrook detectives arrested a third suspect, Brandon T. Jeter, an 18-year-old Millbrook resident, in connection with this case. Jeter was charged with Theft of Property 1st Degree and placed in the Elmore County Jail.

I am extremely proud of the work done by our detectives in this case. Our officers had actually recovered the victim’s vehicle before it was reported stolen. Once the victim reported the vehicle stolen and we discovered the video surveillance, it was just a matter of identifying, locating and apprehending the suspects, which our detectives made quick work of. Having spoken to our lead detective with regard to this case, we anticipate additional arrests being made. There are additional suspects, yet to be identified, but we feel confident that it’s just a matter of time. I would encourage the other young men involved to do the right thing and turn themselves in to law enforcement. As in most cases, this was a crime born of opportunity, committed by young people with no idea or concern for the consequences of their actions.
