The Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted their monthly luncheon at the Marriott Legends Wednesday afternoon. This luncheon was sponsored by Arrow Pest Control with a special feature of the Prattville-Autauga Character Luminary Awards.

The recipients of the Luminary Awards have exemplified high quality characteristics in their daily lives to uplift and strengthen the community from education to business, upholding good character in a place that we all call home.

The Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition is a non-profit and was established in 2007 after the City of Prattville passed a resolution establishing Prattville as a “City of Character.” Prattville was the second of only three cities in the state of Alabama to receive the prestigious distinction, promoting and fostering character education and development.

“We receive nominations from the community, then there’s a committee that makes these selections and every year Arrow Pest Control graciously donates their luncheon to us and we can come together to highlight them and honor them for their accomplishments and the importance the recipients put on character in their daily lives,” President of the Board for the Prattville Character Coalition, Catherine Porter said.

The Coalition promotes and encourages character through businesses, schools, faith organizations that enhance climate, culture and highlight honor within the community. Numerous members and businesses of the local Prattville and Autauga County community were recognized Wednesday afternoon for just that.

The officers and the board of directors for the Coalition were the individuals who presented the awards to the recipients. Each naming the characteristics that they have personally seen within each recipient and how their character traits move the community in a positive direction.

Not only does the Coalition provide prestigious awards for leading by example, they also offer scholarship opportunities for students to further their education after high school. This year they honored three students, Caden Walker, Alexa Cordero and Emily Herring with $3,500 scholarship each to further their education.

“We’re just appreciative to be able to do this every year through the partnerships that we have. We are always honored in order to do this event every year. We think that there are citizens and organizations within Prattville and Autauga County that are so deserving of being recognized for the importance that they put on good character in their lives,” Porter said.
