PRATTVILLE – Phase II of U.S. Highway 82 expansion begins this Week

FROM THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Transportation capacity building project on U.S. Highway 82 in Prattville will begin the second phase this week.

The second phase of the capacity building project will resurface the original two lanes on U.S. Highway 82 from Alabama Highway 14 to U.S. Highway 31 and replace the original bridges over Autauga Creek and the Autauga Northern Railroad.

The contractor has begun moving equipment into the area to begin demolition of the existing bridges.

The first phase of the project added two new lanes to U.S. Highway 82 from Alabama Highway 14 to U.S. Highway 31 and two new bridges over Autauga Creek and the Autauga Northern Railroad.

Once the second phase of the project is complete, that portion of U.S. Highway 82 will be a four-lane highway.

Motorists are advised to plan accordingly for possible delays and to be mindful of equipment and people working in the work zone.

ALDOT awarded the $10.6 million project to Newell and Bush, Inc., of Montgomery, who had the lowest bid that met project requirements.  The project is expected to be complete by Fall 2024.
