PRATTVILLE ALABAMA COMMAND CENTER: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints assists in disaster relief efforts in the aftermath of Alabama tornadoes

WHAT:                 Volunteers arriving from Latter-day Saint congregations in Alabama and Georgia will serve together in this tornado cleanup effort. Volunteers clear debris and remove trees and tarp roofs, bringing comfort in their trademark yellow shirts and vests. All services are performed at no cost.

Chainsaws, hand trucks, debris sleds, tarps, food boxes, water, and other tools needed to aid storm victims have been shipped to the command center by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ global humanitarian aid department.

The Church is also providing two semi-truckloads of food to community pantries.

WHO:                   It is expected that 600 volunteers from 50 congregations of the Church will travel to the area to assist in the cleanup. Many will camp in tents and work to complete hundreds of work orders throughout the weekend. Every work order completed is one home/house of worship served.

The command center director and volunteers will be available for interviews. Media may request to follow work crews on their assignments. Most will work around Selma.
