Prattville Police Chief mark Thompson, Autauga Sheriff Joe Sedinger, and Mayor Bill Gillespie met at the Autauga County Courthouse this afternoon to recognize Peace Officers Memorial Day.
In front of the courthouse is a monument dedicated to the memory of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
“Even with everything that is going on right now we all felt it was extremely important to recognize the sacrifices of these officers as well as their families,” said Prattville Police Chief mark Thompson.
“The families of these officers are still remembering them and their dedication to their jobs. With the threat of COVID-19 we knew that having a large celebration would not be a good idea right now. But we could not let this day pass without recognizing these officers,” Thompson continued.
The formal memorial is on May 15, and Police Week is the calendar week in which the memorial falls.
