Thank you to Volunteers who work to preserve neglected structures in Autauga County!

FROM LARRY CAVER

OLD AUTAUGA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

As we continue to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month, let’s remember the active volunteers who work so hard to preserve our lost and neglected structures in Old Autauga County. Two of our projects, the old Mulberry Schoolhouse (1895) and Vine Hill Presbyterian Church (1887), were both in serious decay before OAHS got involved. For years, both structures were deemed just not important enough to save. However, we believe ALL history of Autauga County matters. The definition of PRESERVING is to keep some-thing ALIVE, or in existence. We have made it our goal to do such with the forgotten gems of Old Autauga County. Too many historic structures in this county have been torn down and continue to be torn down. Not every structure is suited for saving but we have communities like Billingsley where just about every historic structure is now gone! Please join with OAHS as we continue to PRESERVE and share our county history! Your simple $10 membership in OAHS is important!
