Students from Marbury High School’s FFA chapter brought home multiple state honors this week, including a state championship that will send one team to compete on the national stage later this year.
The Marbury FFA Veterinary Science Team captured first place at the Alabama FFA State Convention, earning the opportunity to represent Alabama at the National FFA Convention in October in Indianapolis.
Team members include Kylie Scroggins, Ava Larkin, Aneija Wright and Aiden Railey.
Kylie Scroggins was named highest individual in the state after an unusual tie at the state competition, where she and Ava posted identical scores, resulting in a tie for first place. Because the tie could not be broken at the state level, officials reverted to district competition results to determine placement, where Scroggins had placed higher, ultimately earning her the top individual honor in the state.
The accomplishment marks a significant achievement for both the students and the Marbury community as the team prepares to compete against top programs from across the country.
“These teams worked incredibly hard and earned this recognition,” Courtney Clair, agriculture teacher and FFA advisor at Marbury High School, said. “These students showed self-discipline, perseverance, and they never gave up when things got hard. They kept working on days they didn’t feel like it, and it paid off. I am so proud of how they have represented Marbury High School. I have just finished my second year of teaching, and I have already been abundantly blessed with these students. I hope this is only the beginning.”
Marbury FFA also earned recognition in the Small Engines Career Development Event, where the team finished second in the state. Cody Woolweaver, an upcoming senior at Marbury High School, was named the highest individual competitor in the contest.
Team members included Hunter Lindley, Hollis Daniel, Cody Woolweaver, Aiden Moore at the district level and Gabe Neighbors at the state competition.
The awards reflect the hard work and dedication of Marbury students, as well as the continued success of the school’s agricultural education program. Through FFA competitions, students gain hands-on experience in technical and career-focused skills while representing their school and community across Alabama.
As one team prepares for a trip to Indianapolis and others celebrate their state-level success, Marbury High School has plenty to be proud of as its students continue to excel both inside and outside the classroom.
