Erica Burke says music has always been her dream since she began singing in her church choir. Burke started singing when she was two-years-old and it’s all she can remember doing. Now 16, Erica is a junior at Prattville High School and is still singing in church youth groups at East Memorial Baptist church in Prattville.
Erica comes from a very musical family. Erica’s father, Wes Burke, was a minister of music at a church in the Memphis area before moving the family to Prattville. Erica’s paternal grandparents sang gospel music and her paternal grandfather, Bill, is a long-time minister of music, just like her father.
Through attending church at East Memorial, Erica and her father met music minister and former contestant on the X-Factor, Jeremy Easley. Erica, Wes and Jeremy worked together to write and record her first professional song titled “Love Letter.”
When asked about what the song meant to her, Erica says that her song is about how people should be treated in relationships. While writing Love Letter, Erica realized that she wanted her song to inspire other teenagers, like herself, to be good to each other and treat each other right.
Erica says that she is inspired musically by artists Carrie Underwood. Erica explained that she stayed true to herself and sings songs from the heart that mean something and something Erica admires.
While pursuing music and continuing to sing, Erica is planning on attending college to become a nurse. Erica hopes to collaborate someday with new country singer Megan Moroney and dreams that one day she will be able to sing at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
Erica’s debut single was released digitally on June 9th.and is available on streaming everywhere.
