Intoxicated Subject Arrested in Millbrook for Public Lewdness and Resisting Arrest

FROM CHIEF P.K. JOHNSON

MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT

On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, Millbrook police responded to the 1100 block of Jackson Lake Road with regard to a report of an intoxicated individual. Upon arrival, the responding officer observed a male individual, who was nude and in full view of anyone in his immediate area. After instructing the individual to clothe himself, officers noted that the subject was having difficulty maintaining his balance, as well as placing his shorts back on his person. Officers also detected an odor of alcoholic beverage about the individual’s, breath and person. Officers determined that the individual was intoxicated to the point that he was a danger to himself or others. The individual, later identified as Jaden Q. Bozeman, a 25-year-old Wetumpka resident, was placed under arrest, being charged with Public Lewdness and Public Intoxication.

After being taken into custody and being placed into a patrol vehicle, Bozeman was able to manipulate his handcuffs from the rear to the front portion of his body and began striking the rear partition and windows of the vehicle. The arresting officer stopped his vehicle to secure Bozeman, at which point he exited the vehicle and had to be taken to the ground and was placed back into custody, his hands cuffed behind his back. Bozeman was able to manipulate his hands from the rear to the front several times during his transport to the Elmore County Jail, forcing officers to stop and restrain/secure him multiple times. Due to his actions, Bozeman was also charged with Resisting Arrest.

Bozeman was turned over to the Elmore County Jail, being placed under a 24 hour hold due to his level of intoxication, under a $2,000 bond.

These are the calls that veteran officers hate to receive. Calls for service involving naked individuals don’t usually end well, as demonstrated in this case. I’m sure that it was a beautiful day at Jackson Lake, with people boating, fishing and otherwise enjoying nature until this individual decided to take getting back to nature in the literal sense. In speaking with the responding officer, it is my understanding that the alleged offender had been approached by the property owner, who was concerned with his behavior and had actually removed a firearm from his person prior to law enforcement being contacted.

Based on this individual’s behavior, his level of intoxication and his actions and demeanor after initial contact with law enforcement, this situation could have escalated into something far more serious. The alleged offender was obviously under the influence of both alcoholic beverages and drugs, which obviously impacted his judgement and actions to the point he was a clear danger to himself and others. I applaud our officer’s efforts and professionalism in apprehending this young man and preventing him from causing any serious harm to himself or others.
