Five exceptional candidates were interviewed Thursday night for the open seat for District 1 on the Elmore County School Board.
At the end of the interviews, Bill Myers was appointed by the board to fill the unexpired term of former Board member Dale Bain, who announced his retirement earlier this year. Two years remain in this term.
Bill Myers currently serves as the Executive Director of the Grandview Family YMCA of Millbrook. He is extremely active in the community, and much loved by many.
During the interview process, Myers said his desire to serve on the board goes back to a lesson his parents taught him about Civic duty and serving the community where you live.
He said it is important to do more for community than your job, but to find other avenues to give back and make a positive difference.
We congratulate Bill Myers on his appointment and thank all of the other qualified candidates who also interviewed for the position.
They are Major John “Jab” Brown, Chris Tyler, Brian Espy and Joyce Loyd-Davis.
Board Chairman David Jones praised all of the candidates, saying there was no way to lose with whoever the current board members selected.
All board members agreed that the panel of candidates was very impressive, and they appreciate their passion for the community and for improving the quality of life for all students in Elmore County.
