MONTGOMERY POST – A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, has claimed the life of a Clanton man. Leighton M. Nelson, 44, was fatally injured when the 2020 Polaris Ranger all-terrain vehicle (ATV) he was operating left the roadway before eventually coming back onto the roadway, where the ATV overturned. Nelson was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash occurred on Chilton County 477, approximately eight miles from the Clanton city limits, in Chilton County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
