Late in the 2nd quarter, the Stanhope Elmore Mustangs led 14-6 and had the ball deep inside Prattville territory, facing a 4th and 1 at the Lions’ 2-yard line. Mustangs quarterback Jacob Bryant attempted a sneak, but the Lions’ defensive line prevented him from scoring or picking up a first down. The Lions then mounted a 98-yard drive to tie the game at 14 heading into the halftime homecoming festivities. Prattville controlled most of the second half to pull away late, and win the rivalry game over the Mustangs, 31-20.

The Mustangs got the ball first at the start of the game. Bryant completed a 22-yard pass to KO Jackson, and then immediately followed that with a 40-yard touchdown pass to Jamari Coleman to put the Mustangs up 7-0. Stanhope Elmore was assessed two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after the touchdown, which was enforced on the kickoff. The Lions started their first possession on the Mustangs’ 46-yard line, and Gavin Rigdon threw a touchdown pass on Prattville’s first play.

Late in the 1st quarter, Stanhope Elmore running back Arthur McQueen took over, rushing for 38-yards and later for a 5-yard touchdown, putting the Mustangs ahead 14-6 heading into the 2nd quarter.

The Mustangs got the ball back, and faced a 4th and 1 in Prattville territory, but McQueen picked up 12-yards to continue the drive. The Mustangs again faced a 4th and 1 at the Prattville 2-yard line before the QB sneak failed to convert.

Prattville quickly drove the ball 98-yards down the field to tie the game, culminating with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Rigdon with less than 20 seconds remaining in the half.

Rigdon and the Lions started the 2nd half where they left off the first half, connecting on a 79-yard touchdown pass to put Prattville ahead 21-14. The Mustangs answered late in the quarter, when Bryant connected with Jackson again, this time for a 55-yard touchdown. Prattville led 21-20 with 1:18 left in the 3rd quarter.

The Lions answered in less than a minute. Rigdon connected on a 21-yard pass, and then threw a 32-yard touchdown for his fourth score of the game. Prattville led 28-20 heading into the final quarter.

The Lions added a field goal in the 4th to push the lead to 31-20, and the Prattville defense did the rest, shutting down the Mustangs’ attack.

For the game, Rigdon threw for a whopping 339 yards and 4 touchdown passes with no interceptions for the Lions.

Mustangs quarterback Jacob Bryant threw for 197 yards and 2 touchdown passes with no interceptions. McQueen rushed for 200 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Lions improved to 2-3 on the season. Next week, the Lions will host Enterprise in a Class 7A Region 2 matchup.

The Mustangs will hit the road again next week in another rivalry matchup, traveling to Wetumpka to take on the Indians in an important Class 6A Region 2 matchup.
