PCA: Coco Thomas signs with Shelton State Community College for Basketball

FROM PRATTVILLE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Prattville Christian Academy’s Lameria “Coco” Thomas, a three-time state championship student-athlete, committed to the Lady Buccaneers to chase her vocational dreams while continuing to play the game she loves with an award-winning NJCAA Division I program.

Coco is a dominating presence on the court, having played 155 games in her varsity career, with a current team record of 144-21 in the five seasons since her eighth-grade year. She has worn the Panther varsity jersey more than any other student-athlete in school history and holds the program record for offensive and total rebounds. While her top-10 school-ranked career statistics are impressive, the fact that she didn’t even begin her basketball journey until she began playing as a part of PCA’s middle school team is even more fascinating.

Coco’s God-given athletic ability, determination, and time invested on the court have created a powerhouse player ready for collegiate-level competition. She has a desire and passion for competition deep inside her that is unmatched among her generation. She embraces the challenge of being coached – to be molded and transformed into the player and team leader that she didn’t always recognize within herself.

“I am always excited to watch one of our student-athletes get an opportunity to play at the next level, but Coco’s {story} is pretty special,” said Tara Osborne, PCA’s athletic director. “What she’s accomplished in just five years is unreal. Her energy and smile are contagious, and she welcomes everyone with open arms. She is an absolute joy to be around.”

At 5’11”, Coco’s physical stature commands attention, but her gentle spirit and consistent leadership allow her to stand above others. She is known for investing in future Panther athletes and is not afraid of putting in the work by always being willing to do what is asked of her on and off the court.

“It has been an absolute joy coaching Coco Thomas over the past five years,” said Jason Roberson, PCA’s head basketball coach. “She’s had an incredible basketball career accomplishing things that most student-athletes only dream about, but I am most proud of the young lady she has grown and matured into since first stepping onto the court. She is an absolute winner who will be successful at whatever she chooses to pursue.”
