Stanhope Elmore Girls’ basketball star Heaven Bailey was one of 14 rising seniors selected to play for the South team in the annual Alabama High School Athletic Association All Star Girls’ Basketball Classic. Competing against the best rising seniors from the north part of the state, Bailey showed that she is one of the premiere guards in the state of Alabama. Bailey scored 17 points and had 4 rebounds and 3 assists. While the South team didn’t get the win, Bailey was named the Most Valuable Player of the South squad. She is the first girls’ basketball player from Stanhope Elmore to ever be named the Most Valuable Player in the AHSAA All Star Game.
“There were so many talented players in the game, so to be recognized as the South MVP is truly an honor and a blessing. It reflects all the hard work I’ve put in over the years. I’m so grateful to my coaches, trainer, teammates, and family for always supporting me,” said Bailey.
Bailey racked up numerous awards in her junior season at Stanhope Elmore. During the season, the Lady Mustangs were ranked as the highest they had ever been in school history. They swept Wetumpka all three times they played, they won the area championship, and they advanced to the regional tournament. Individually, Bailey was named Class 6A 1st Team All State and the Elmore County Player of the Year. She hopes the experience from the All-Star game will help her achieve even more as a senior.
“Playing with and against some of the top players pushed me to compete at a higher level and showed me areas where I can continue to improve. I’m bringing that confidence, experience, and competitive mindset into my season, and I’m excited to help my team achieve our goals,” said Bailey.
The Lady Mustangs have never made the Final Four or won a state championship. Bailey hopes to change that in her final high school season, and lead Stanhope Elmore to a title.
“I love my school so much and I really feel like I’ve put them on the map with my performance. We have so many great players and I hope this opens up the opportunity for more of our girls to participate in this game in the future,” said Bailey. “I’m excited for my senior season and I look forward to continuing to work hard, improve my game, and represent my school with pride.”
Bailey currently has college offers from Division 1 schools Delaware, Siena, and Alabama State. She has also been offered by Shorter University, University of Mobile, LBW Community College, Snead State Community College, Shelton State Community College, and Coastal Alabama Community College – South.
Bailey has not made any college visits yet but plans to take college visits after the conclusion of her AAU season.
