On August 6th, over 100 children and their families in the community came out to a Back to School event in Wetumpka, Alabama. The event was held at First United Methodist Church of Wetumpka located at 306 West Tuskeena Street.

The church blessed many families with a meal, devotion, backpacks, and lots of fun outdoor games for the children. A giveaway prize was also given to one lucky family which consisted of a $50 pizza gift card, family devotion book, family game, and conversation starter cards. Children that came did not leave empty handed as they received a new backpack filled with snacks and juice for school.

Michelle Abernathy is the Children’s Director for FUMC of Wetumpka, and organized this event.

Jamie Farquhar was the speaker for the event. He is the Student Minister of the Youth for First United Methodist Church of Wetumpka.

The dinner was provided by the church which consisted of pizza from Dominos, ice cream for dessert and drinks that were provided as well. The outdoor games consisted of cornhole, bubble blowing, four-square, jumping on inflatable rings and other activities.

Abernathy spoke to the EAN about the event. “At First United Methodist of Wetumpka, we want to spread God’s love to as many people as we can. We are thrilled that we could be the hands and feet of Jesus tonight. Jamie and I would like to thank all of our amazing volunteers who helped make our event a success. We love how our volunteers have a servant’s heart,” said Abernathy. Their next big event will take place in October for their Fall Festival.
