Summer Knight Tatum posted about her pregnancy and her excitement in meeting her then unborn son, on social media prior to her death. Many happy photos document her relationship and marriage to the suspect in her death, Hunter James Tatum. He remains in the Autauga County Metro Jail on a total bond of $400,000.

Summer spoke of the upcoming birth of her son, which was due in February.

Detectives are investigating and trying to find answers to what happened just after midnight Monday on Sunset Court.

What is known is that Summer had at least one gunshot wound to the head. Officers were called to the residence and medics transported Summer to the hospital. An emergency cesarean section brought the infant into the world, but by later that morning both Summer and her son had died.

Summer’s husband, Hunter Tatum, is set to appear in an Autauga County Courtroom Thursday and the legal process will begin. Meanwhile, Summer’s family is making funeral arrangements.

Earlier in October, Summer wrote on social media, “We are on to our next adventure, and we’re more than halfway there! We had our anatomy scan last week and everything looks perfect so far. There were just a few things not visualized so we get to have another look in a couple of weeks. I am so blessed by this pregnancy, but it has been HARD, and at this point I can only assume it’ll be that way to the end.  We are so excited to meet our baby BOY.”

But something horrible happened on Sunset Court. Suspicions of exactly what that could be have not been released as this is an active investigation, Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson said.

However, there was enough evidence that warrants were issued for the Tatum’s arrest.

Chief Thompson said that was has been learned to this point is “troubling.”

Thompson said there are so far no documented calls to the residence found in the past regarding any type of domestic violence and/or disputes.

We will be attending Tatum’s appearance in Autauga County court and will have information from that appearance.

Meanwhile, we reported the following information yesterday concerning the fact that pregnant women are often the victims of violence and/or murder. For that information visit
