Health Order, Mask Mandate Extended for Another Six Weeks by Gov. Ivey

FROM THE ELMORE COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

January 21, 2021

Gov. Ivey announced today that she is once again extending the statewide health order and mask mandate for another six weeks. The current order was set to expire tomorrow, but the governor is extending the order until 5:00 pm on March 5th.

Along with the mask mandate, the order continues all of the current restrictions, limits and guidelines. These include occupancy limits on retail stores, sanitation guidelines, and social distancing requirements.

As of today, Alabama has recorded 432,536 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 6,379 deaths. The rollout of the coronavirus vaccine has experienced delays and other problems in the initial phase, but the governor and State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris assured the public that these problems are being resolved and that the state will begin reassigning vaccine doses away from places that are not administering all of their allotted doses. Dr. Harris also announced that the state has partnered with Walmart to help distribute the vaccine, and hopes to announce another major partnership for vaccine distribution “very soon.”
