Humane Society of Elmore County News

19 Oct ‘20

Thank you so very much to all the wonderful people who brought donations for the area shelters last Tuesday at the Alabama National Fair. We are incredibly grateful to the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery members and Alabama National Fair for their hard work making the Alabama National Fair such a success and for helping our River Region Animal Shelters like this. Thank you all so very much!

THIS Tuesday, 20 October at 6 pm is our Humane Society’s Annual Meeting at the Wetumpka Civic Center, 410 S. Main St, Wetumpka, AL 36092. We will be reviewing our accomplishments in the past year and looking ahead to 2021. Reminder – due to COVID, masks are required to be worn. Hope to see you there!

Our Shelter is a non-profit organization, meaning supporters, volunteers, adopters and donors are critical to our success. A little over a week ago we put out a plea for dry dog food and our supporters came through in a HUGE way! We are most humbled and grateful for this huge level of support. We are now safe and out of the danger zone regarding dry dog food thanks to all who donated. But we will always welcome donations of food, cleaning supplies, towels, bedding and the like as it makes a huge and positive difference! This way we can use our financial funds for health and welfare expenses like vaccinations, medications, microchips, spay/neuter surgeries and surgeries/treatments for sick and injured animals brought to us.

Our Volunteer Board & Tail’s End Thrift Store Volunteers also work very hard at raising money for our Shelter through our Tail’s End Thrift Store which is run 100% by Volunteers. The store is open Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays for donations (9 am – noon) and shopping (9 am – 3 pm) but there are also Volunteer opportunities throughout the week. We welcome more Volunteers at our Thrift Store to lighten the load on everyone and there are multiple ways you can help if you are able to give a few hours/week. If you are interested just email the shelter at hselco@bellsouth.net or send a Facebook message to the Tail’s End Thrift Store Facebook page or stop by the Thrift Store and chat with any of our Volunteers.

And while we are still holding off on Volunteers IN our Shelter, volunteering in our Thrift Store IS helping our animals as all of the proceeds from sales there come straight to our shelter to help our work caring for 250+ animals every day.
