Seven Prattville teams got splashed, iced, and were even made to walk the plank Wednesday, but it was all for a good cause.

The teams from church, community, business, and government were taking part in the Prattville YMCA Emerging Leader’s Third Annual Sink-a-Palooza.  Each boat team floated and paddled around the pool while family, friends, coworkers, and community members donated money to sink their ship. Guests were able to purchase additional accessories from the Sink Shop to assist in sinking their favorite teams.

Water cannons to shoot at the participants were $25.  You could dump an entire bucket of ice on your favorite team member for $75.  You could make someone walk the plank for $100. Several participants got multiple buckets of ice dumped on them at one time.

Teams participating represented the YMCA Emerging Leaders Club, the Prattville Fire Department, Prattville First United Methodist Church, Aronov Realty, Hunter Hills Church of Christ, InterLinc Mortgage and Bo Evans Realty.

Rebecca Thomas, marketing chairman for the event, said the pre-Corona goal was to raise $20,000 for the YMCA’s Coach A Child Scholarship Program. Proceeds will assist in providing discounted or free YMCA services to underprivileged children in the area.

Hunter Hills Church earned top honors by raising nearly $2,500. Second place went to the Prattville YMCA’s Emerging Leaders Club, which raised $2,225. Aronov Realty came in third with $1,980 raised.

One of the highlights of the event was seeing Mayor Bill Gillespie “walk the plank.” Mayor Gillespie had promised the Fire Department if they raised $500, he would take a dive into the pool in fire gear. Lunch was provided by First Community Bank of Central Alabama. SEE MORE PHOTOS BELOW!
