The Millbrook Senior Center is far from a hidden gem, it’s a well-loved landmark in the heart of the community. Locals instantly recognize the row of iconic rocking chairs lining the front porch, offering a warm and inviting welcome to everyone who passes by.
The Senior Center is a collaborative effort between the Grandview YMCA, the Central Alabama Aging Consortium, and the City of Millbrook. Together, they provide a wide range of nutrition, wellness, recreational, and social services designed to enrich the lives of local seniors. Participants can enjoy a variety of activities, including dominoes, checkers, bingo, crafts, movie days, and light fitness classes. The center also hosts informative lunch-and-learn seminars, offering opportunities to stay active, engaged, and connected. The center serves 62 hot meals daily in house and 40 delivered to homebound seniors. A group from Millbrook Methodist Church delivers for the center and has for over 25 years.
The Millbrook Senior Center Director, Olivia Veanable, although she would not say this about herself, is the heartbeat of the center and is deeply loved by all involved. Venable shared, โI have been managing the center since 2015, after retiring from the City of Millbrook with 27 years of service. Our mission is to serve and enrich the holistic wellness of older adults and those who care for them through education, innovation and to create a network of community partners to enhance this mission.โ
The Millbrook Senior Center is truly a place where older adults can connect and create friendships where community comes together to share and enjoy life together. Venable states, โParticipation is great. On any given day we see 50 or more seniors. The friendships are so special between our congregates. They truly love one another.โ
Whether youโre a senior or simply someone who enjoys giving back, the Senior Center is the perfect place to get involved. The center welcomes volunteers of all ages and offers a warm environment where you can meet new people, stay active, and take part in different programs. If youโre looking for a fun, engaging way to connect with others, please stop by the center to sign up for more information.
Make sure you check the Senior Centerโs monthly calendar and register. Lunch is served Monday through Friday at 11:30 am at 3771 Grandview Road in the heart of Millbrook.
