The Elmore County Commission presented the Captain William Bibb Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) with a proclamation, Nov. 24, 2025, officially recognizing 2026 as America’s Semiquincentennial Anniversary.

Organizations like NSDAR play a key role in preserving the nation’s history, promoting patriotism, and engaging citizens in the observance of historic anniversaries like America’s 250th birthday.

“Our chapters all over the state and nation are working together to celebrate and commemorate this wonderful occasion, a once-in-a-lifetime and once in our nation’s lifetime anniversary,” said Elizabeth Gillian from the Captain William Bibb Chapter, NSDAR.

The observance highlights the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and encourages communities across the country to reflect on how America’s principles and identity have evolved over the past two centuries.

“We appreciate the chapter always bringing special attention to our country, giving us the opportunity to be a part of special anniversaries like this,” said Elmore County Commission Chairman Bart Mercer.
