The City of Prattville honored local heroes on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, with its annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Autauga County Courthouse.

Hosted in partnership with American Legion Post 122 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1349, the event opened with Prattville High School’s Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) presenting the colors and conducting a flag-raising ceremony.

“It’s so fitting to have an abundance of sunshine today to honor our veterans and their families,” said Bill Gillespie, Mayor of Prattville. “The impact that these men and women have had on the City of Prattville has been immeasurable, and what Prattville is today is because of the veterans here and the ones before us.”

Following Gillespie’s remarks, District 4 Councilor Tommy Merrick took the podium as the event’s keynote speaker.

“Today, as we honor veterans and those in uniform, let us also honor the families behind them,” said Merrick. “Their love, resilience, and unwavering support allow our service members to stand tall and keep this nation safe and strong.”

Prattville’s JROTC cadets returned to perform a flag-folding ceremony, as veterans, their families, and community members looked on in quiet reverence. The solemn POW/MIA ceremony followed.

The morning concluded with the laying of a wreath at the courthouse monument honoring the men and women of Autauga County who served and the playing of taps by Prattville High School Band’s Tristan Godfrey.
