Local man arrested pursuant to multiple thefts from local business

From: Chief PK Johnson

Millbrook Police Department

On September 24, 2025, Millbrook police responded to a business in the 1100 block of Highway 14 with regard to a theft of property. The complainant stated that an unidentified male entered the business, acquired assorted merchandise and left without remitting payment. Millbrook detectives were later able to identify the alleged offender as Jeffrey Porter, a 55-year-old Millbrook resident. A warrant for Porter’s arrest for Theft of Property 4th Degree was issued by the Millbrook Municipal Court.

On November 6, 2025, an officer with the Millbrook Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit made contact with Porter on a traffic stop, at which time he was taken into custody on the afore mentioned outstanding Theft of Property 4th Degree warrant. Porter was transported to the Millbrook Police Department, where he was processed and later released on bond.

On Saturday, November 8, 2025, Porter is alleged to have entered the same business, located in the 1100 block of Highway 14, at which time he allegedly acquired beer and assorted merchandise, again leaving the business without remitting payment. A second warrant for Theft of Property 4th Degree was issued for Porter’s arrest. Due to the alleged offender being released on bond pursuant to a previous theft charge, the Millbrook Municipal Court also issued a bench warrant for Bond Revocation.

On November 10, 2025, an officer with the Millbrook Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit observed Porter in the 100 block of Nixon Road. A traffic stop was conducted, at which time Porter was taken into custody, being placed under arrest on the outstanding Theft of Property 4th Degree and Bond Revocation warrants. Porter was transported to the Millbrook Police Department for processing and later transported to the Elmore County Jail, where he was turned over to jail staff pending a court appearance.

We continue to see similar incidents. People will just walk into a business, acquire merchandise and leave the business without remitting payment. Despite our best efforts to educate the public to the fact that more and more businesses are utilizing surveillance equipment, as well as loss prevention staff to protect their property, people continue to tempt fate by committing these property crimes. I can attest, if you commit the crime of theft in Millbrook Alabama, most of our businesses have said equipment, and they will pursue prosecution should you commit the crime of theft in their respective businesses, and we are able to identify you. You’d be far better off to simply pay for the merchandise or avoid shopping if you have no intention of paying. As the old saying goes, “Insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly, expecting a different outcome.”
