MILLBROOK CULTURAL ARTS

Millbrook – We are pleased to announce that Millbrook local and SEHS graduate Drey Nelson is now offering acting classes at the Art Mill.

Drey Nelson is an actor, producer, writer, and director, currently residing in Montgomery, AL. He is a graduate of the University of Mobile, earning bachelor’s degrees in both in History and Sociology, as well as being a member of the men’s basketball team. Although Theatre was his original major, he found it difficult to maintain a healthy balance with the demanding schedules both the arts and sports called for and decided to change course his junior year. After graduation, Drey chose to pursue basketball as a career, as it has always been his dream, he knew that music and acting would eventually become primary in his future.

Drey played professional basketball for multiple overseas leagues for five years. After suffering an MCL injury at the peak of his career, his journey on the court came to an abrupt halt. While going through strenuous physical therapy, he used his recovery time to analyze what was next. After being cleared, he found his career on the court at a standstill. Not knowing when, or if his next opportunity would come, his passion for acting reached a new plateau.

Viewed as a raw, yet promising talent, he sparked the interest of directors, writers, and filmmakers with his undeniable work ethic, perseverance, and ambition. He began taking private acting classes, went on a multitude of auditions, and eventually earned both leading and supporting roles in a string of television projects, films and Off-Broadway productions. His breakthrough performance is said to have been in the Tony Award Winning, dark comedic satire, “The Colored Museum”, by George C. Wolfe.

Drey has been a part of projects with companies such as Prime Video, Paramount Plus, TV One and Netflix. He is currently filming, starring in, and producing his own series, “The Nature of Sin”, which is slated to be released in 2024.

Join us on April 16 to meet Drey and find out more about his classes!
