Stanhope Elmore High School Senior Alexis Cano has made the most of his time in Alabama since legally coming to the United States from Guatemala when he was 12-years-old. After arriving in the US, Cano learned, and became fluent in English. Since that time, Cano has had a successful high school soccer career at Stanhope Elmore in school ball, and with Prattville United Soccer Club for travel ball. As a result of his improvement and skill, Cano recently committed to continue his soccer career at Enterprise State Community College.

Playing as striker or wing, Cano has scored 33 goals to go along with 22 assists over his three year varsity career for the Mustangs. Of all the goals scored for varsity, Cano had a difficult choice to name his most memorable. “I’d have to say my favorite goal was my very first varsity goal in my very first varsity game for Stanhope Elmore.”

Cano was a member of the 2022 Mustangs’ team that won Class 6A Area 5 championship. His team also advanced to the Class 6A playoffs last year as a junior. “My favorite memory with SEHS was last year when we played at Helena, who had a really good team, and went down 2-0, but came back to tie the game at 2. It was a really competitive and fun game.”

The SEHS senior caught the eyes of the Enterprise State coaches during a game the Mustangs played earlier this season against Enterprise High School.  He followed that up with a visit to the campus where he met the coaches and was offered a full scholarship. Cano committed, and will officially sign a scholarship on April 15. He will also be joined at Enterprise State with players he previously knows at Wetumpka and Pike Road High Schools.

“At Enterprise State, my goal is to improve as a player, and ultimately earn a scholarship to a 4-year school and get a degree in architecture.”
