The Millbrook Revelers’ Mardi Gras Festival and Parade may have been a week later than expected, but it didn’t hurt the crowds, the floats or the enthusiasm at all.

Beginning at 9 a.m. at Village Green, the festival kicked off with various vendors, games, rides and plenty of activities for all ages. At 10 a.m., the traditional umbrella stroll began with Revelers parading around the park to Mardi Gras music. Donned in their best regalia, Millbrook Revelers’ Mardi Gras Queen and King were Michele Reeves and Bobby Clark.

The parade rolled at noon, with Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson estimating a crowd of 15,000 people lined the streets and filled the park. Millbrook Police and Reserve officers blocked off streets for the hour-long parade.

Celebrating Mardi Gras is still relatively new to our area. The Revelers were the first to begin the parade and festival, followed over the years by other area towns. The Millbrook parade is still referred to as the largest Mardi Gras parade north of Mobile.

Thank you to the Revelers, the vendors, city staff, first responders, participants and everyone who made this a great day in Millbrook. Happy Mardi Gras all.
