After a dominant season on the court for the Edgewood Academy volleyball team that resulted in the team’s 5th consecutive AISA 2A state championship, senior Madison Martin racked up an impressive number of honors.

Martin was named 2023 AISA 2A Volleyball All Tournament Team, 2023 AISA 2A All Star Volleyball Team, and the 2023 AISA Volleyball All-State Team. In her senior season, Martin had 236 kills, 75 aces, and 77 blocks.

A member of the National Honor Society, the Edgewood senior started playing volleyball in 7th grade, and began playing travel ball her sophomore year with ManaToa. This year, she is playing for the 18 National team for the Capital City Juniors.

In addition to her volleyball skills, Martin also plays on the Wildcats’ two-time defending AISA 2A state champion basketball team and was a starter on the Wildcats’ undefeated 2022-2023 team. She is a dominant presence down low on the current 2023-2024 team, hoping to help deliver yet another state title next month when the AISA Final 4 is held at the Cramton Bowl Complex in Montgomery. Playing on so many Edgewood teams that have won it all in AISA is a lasting impact.

“Edgewood is more than just a school; we are one big family. My favorite memory playing basketball and volleyball for Edgewood would definitely be winning alongside my best friends. Being a part of multiple championship teams at Edgewood in both volleyball and basketball has given me many memorable moments, lasting friendships, and the recognition that comes with achieving success at a competitive level,” said Martin.

Martin’s athletic career will continue at the college level for Faulkner on the volleyball court. The decision to choose the nearby school was based on a few factors. “I decided to choose Faulkner University for volleyball because of the coaching staff and the players. During my official visit, everyone was so welcoming, and it truly felt like I was meant to be there, already a part of the Faulkner family,” said Martin.

The Edgewood senior has plans and goals for her college career. “My goals at Faulkner are to maintain a good GPA while continuing to develop my volleyball skills. I want to grow as a person and as a college athlete. I plan to study Occupational Therapy.”
