Due to ongoing renovations at Stanley Jensen Stadium, the Prattville Lion’s Class 6A-7A Semi-Final against the Central Phenix City Red Devils on Thursday night was moved to Marbury High School. Approximately 10 miles from Prattville High School down Highway 31, Marbury High School was a logical destination for the playoff game.

The Prattville community made sure to come out and support the Lions as they competed for a chance to play in the state championship game on December 6 at Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, in the school’s first season fielding a flag football team. The Pride of Prattville Marching Band, cheerleaders, students, and fans showed up and created an exciting playoff atmosphere.

The Red Devils, who defeated Prattville twice during the regular season, were again too much for the Lions, winning 34-6. But it didn’t come easy. Central Phenix City didn’t score their first points until the 2nd quarter. The Red Devils drove the ball deep into Prattville territory on their first drive to start the game, but senior Kaylee Robles intercepted a pass in the end zone and returned it almost 60 yards to give Prattville great field position. The Lions weren’t able to get points, but the Lions’ defense again held Central Phenix City on the following drive, forcing a punt.

The Red Devils intercepted a Prattville pass early in the 2nd quarter, and were able to convert the turnover into points. With the momentum, the Red Devils showed why they are considered the best flag football team in the state, scoring twice more before halftime and a couple times in the 3rd quarter.

The Lions got on the board in the 4th quarter when Quarterback Kaytie Chandler found Robles for a touchdown. Central Phenix City was able to run out the clock and move on to the state championship game against Vestavia Hills.

For the game, Chandler had a passing touchdown, and Robles had a receiving touchdown and an interception.

During the season, the Lions’ team showed incredible knowledge of the game and passion for the game and earned the support and respect of the Prattville community. Although Robles is graduating, the Lions return a plethora of skill players, to include Chandler and Hartley Mccay who split time at quarterback, and wide receivers London Williams and Laniya Page, as well as multiple other contributors.

Prattville’s record for the year was an impressive 14-6, to include a quarterfinal win on the road over previously unbeaten Tuscaloosa County. Congrats to the Lions on a great season!
