On Thursday, the Elmore County Technical Center (ECTC) in Wetumpka held a ribbon cutting for the completion of the renovations for Phase II. They also had their Open House for students, parents, and the public. A hot dog supper from Front Porch Grill was available while supplies lasted for all who attended. A cookie cake and also cookies were provided by Made by Molly LLC. Everyone was able to tour the new classrooms, meet the teachers and see the new labs firsthand at the newly renovated facility.

“Last year we did a ribbon cutting for our new building located on the back of campus and we are so excited to be celebrating the completion of the renovations to our existing buildings today,” said Emilie Johnson, Career Tech Director and District Counseling Coordinator.

She continued, “This Second phase of construction consisted in a remodel that included renovations to the main office, administrative offices, counseling and guidance area, Drafting & Design, Information Technology, Work Based Learning, Teaching & Training, and Hospitality & Tourism as well as our new programs, Culinary and Cybersecurity. We are very thankful to Mr. Richard Dennis and the Elmore County Board of Education for their support of career and technical education and for helping us improve the quality of our career and technical education programs.”

ECTC currently has 16 programs and an enrollment of almost 1100 students. The new courses for the 2023-2024 school year consist of Computer Science, Culinary Arts, and Diesel Technology. Students may begin most programs in 10th grade (Medical Sciences in 11th grade). Programs have two classes each year; ECHS, EDGE, SEHS, and WHS, courses cover two periods all year. At HHS, the courses cover one block all year. Students are typically only able to take one program at a time during a school year.

“We are very excited to have the Elmore County Technical Center at full capacity now with facilities all open,” said Elmore County Public Schools Superintendent Richard Dennis.

He continued, “This will expand our opportunities for students in Elmore County and help business and industry in Central Alabama.”

“This was a great event at ECTC,” said Wendell Saxon, ECBOE Board Member for District 1. He continued, “Thanks for all our elected officials and community  partners that came out to this event as well.”
