ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS

The Autaugaville Fire Department is planning a fundraiser for their Chief Darrell Johnson as he is battling a cancer diagnosis.

Plans are still coming together, and we will have more information on this as plans are finalized.

For now, we know the event will be Aug. 5, 2023 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Autaugaville Fire Department.

There will be fried fish plates and barbecue plates for $10. There will be items to raffle to the highest bidder, and other items to purchase outright. You can also purchase a whipped cream to the face of a volunteer for $1. There will be a dunking booth with area firefighters or police officers. One ball for $1 or seven balls for $5.

According to organizers, Chief Johnson is currently facing enormous out of pocket medical expenses for radiation. He learned recently he has to come up with at least $5,000, possibly $10,000, for the surgery required to help him heal. His wife also is facing back surgery and will be out of work for some time. Volunteers are trying to raise money to help them through this crisis. The EAN is asking the area to donate what you can. This man has served his community well, sacrificing much. It is time to help him and his family through this and let him know he has support and prayers.
