An early morning incident involving a reported armed man and Wetumpka officers has ended with multiple shots fired, and the suspect deceased at the Marathon Gas Station on Hwy. 14.

As Wetumpka officers are involved, this case has been turned over the Alabama Law Enforcement State Bureau of Investigations, according to Wetumpka Police Chief Greg Benton. He said that his officers are safe and uninjured.

Sometime before 4 a.m. this morning, a call came of a man with a gun at the Marathon Gas Station.

When officers arrived, the subject, who has not been publicly identified, reportedly tried to run from the scene, ChiefBenton said. Officers tased the man and attempted to subdue him. Reportedly, the suspect was in possession of a gun and fired multiple rounds before officers returned fire. The man was pronounced dead in the parking lot of the station.

As of a short time ago, SBI and multiple law enforcement agencies were still on scene. The gas station entrances were blocked off, as investigators with SBI work the scene at this time.

No further information was immediately available, and the investigation will be led by SBI.
