Bikers for Books Drive Held at Airport Road Intermediate School

Harley Davidson of Montgomery arrived at ARIS Thursday with nearly 200 books for the school library. A truck load of books arrived lead by the motorcycles and an escort assist by both Coosada and Millbrook Police departments.

The students were able to watch with excitement as the books arrived.

Along with the 200 books from Harley Davidson the students have donated 150 books themselves. The book drive will be held until March 31st, and they are accepting new or gently used books.

Wendi Johnson, library assistant coordinated this entire event. She was also leading the procession of motorcycles that arrived at the school. Johnson started after Christmas break planning for this event. She was able to talk with the Manager of Harley Davidson Montgomery and coordinated a date for the book drive. After that she started contacting everyone she knew associated with motorcycle clubs or individual riders. She also passed out flyers to spread the word about the book drive.  

“I’m just so grateful to all of the people that helped make this event a total success. With over 350 books collected, our students will have some great new books to read. It makes my heart smile to see the excitement on the faces of the kids as the bikers rode up to the school. I would also like to give a special thank you to the Millbrook and Coosada Police Departments for the full escort. It was a great day for everyone.” said Wendi Johnson.

“We appreciate all the book donations, and the students are very excited about getting new books to check out in the library,” said Sharon Earl, Assistant Principal at ARIS. 

“Bikers for books noticed a need and fulfilled the need by partnering with ARIS to ensure that books get into the hands of our students . We are so thankful for every donation,” said Marcy Stephens, Principal at ARIS.
