Elmore County

Recently, many citizens have inquired about why several large potholes are not being addressed by Elmore County Public Works personnel along the Marion Spillway Rd. The dam and spillway along Marion Spillway Rd are the responsibility of the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) and not the Elmore County Commission. The areas in question have been reported several times to ADOC. Signs indicating the beginning and end of county maintenance are installed along the road to indicate where the county maintenance begins and ends.

In previous years, Elmore County had an agreement in place with ADOC to provide these type maintenance services along the ADOC sections of Marion Spillway Rd in exchange for reduced state inmate labor costs. When the agreement term was close to ending, Elmore County Public Works was informed by ADOC personnel that ADOC wouldn’t be renewing or initiating a new agreement with the County.

Anyone with issues related to the condition of Marion Spillway Road along the dam and spillway, should contact ADOC at 334-567-1460.
