By Robin Campbell

Special to the EAN

The anticipation for the opening is finally over. The doors opened Satursay with customers already waiting. The official ribbon cutting will be Monday. Classic Audio and Records, formerly known as Classic Wireless, has relocated to 2048 Fairview Avenue Prattville, AL. The Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce invites the public to the ribbon cutting of Classic Audio and Records at 10 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2022.

Owner Stephen Rich, Store Manager, Denise Baker, Store Security Diva along side Rich’s family were there for the grand opening. Stephen Rich an artist himself, long dreamed of a store where people could come share in his passion of music, purchase audio systems and learn about the audio era, and much more. Saturday his dream turned into reality.

Classic Audio and Records has two listening stations, offers repairs on equipment, and sells new and used vinyl. They offer reel to reel tapes, reel to reel equipment, stereo equipment, and will also buy equipment and vinyl. The store has a great selection of audio equipment from the 70s golden era of audio. There is a reel to reel that was once part of Y102’s studio. They are an authorized dealer of Pro-ject, Audio-Technica, Sumiko and Ortofon.

Sergio Villarreal, a local artist, 805 studio, has artwork in the store. He stopped by to browse and support the store’s grand opening. Sergio offered every $50 spent Saturday, a chance to win artwork from him. The winner will be announced next weekend.

I had a chance to talk to Sergio about his passion of art. Sergio stated he has been painting since he was young but in 2012 when his son passed away from Leukemia, painting was his way of dealing with the grief. Sergio said he paints in different styles, but his favorite is impressionism. He enjoys playing with movement and light in his paintings.

Wes and Erica Burk, a father-daughter duo, spent some time combing through the records and spending time together with their shared passion of music. Every where you turned there were conversations happening between strangers about their own passions of music and art.

Diva, store security, came out from her spot behind the desk, for a short time to greet customers and give some love. She has been a part of the previous store and well known to most customers. She now has her name on the window where she sleeps during store hours. Diva is Denise’s 12-year-old pit bull rescue, who enjoys greeting customers and sleeping on the job.
