Thursday night was a momentous occasion as the Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition presented the 2022 Champion of Character award to Dr. David Thrasher and the crowd had the chance to hear what Thrasher experienced fighting the battle against Covid-19 over the last two years.
The Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition held its Champions of Character event at the Robert Trent Jones Clubhouse Thursday along with a silent auction fundraiser. The large crowd gathered to celebrate Thrasher for his efforts fighting Covid and for his leadership in the community.
Comments about the Character Coalition’s impact in the community and Thrasher’s efforts as a Champion of Character were made by Doug Black from International Paper, who sponsored the event, Pastor Peyton Hill and the YMCA’s General Director and the coalition’s Treasurer David Lewis.
“This last year we presented character education grants totaling $7,000 to Autauga County educators to begin new character development programs in our schools,” Lewis said as he discussed how the Character Coalition has affected the community. “We presented two Excellence in Character scholarships in the amount of $3,500 each to two deserving students from Prattville and Autauga County. We have a scholarship for an undergraduate student who is enrolled in college and one for a graduating senior who will be entering college. We were really proud of those young people and their dedication to the principles of character and their exemplification of that in their daily lives.”
Lewis turned his attention to Dr. Thrasher to talk about the doctor’s outstanding strength of character. Thrasher is a doctor with Montgomery Pulmonary Associates and his work has been well-known helping to fight Covid both in Alabama and nationally.
Thrasher spent time talking through his work dealing with the virus with the crowd after receiving his award.
