On Tuesday, the Town of Autaugaville got the chance to get together with friends and supporters, as well as several local officials, to celebrate the groundbreaking of the town’s new Senior Center.

Officials from Autaugaville, the Autauga County Commission and the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce joined representatives from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), the Alabama Department of Senior Services (ADSS), and the Central Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission (CARPDC) for a groundbreaking in celebration of the Senior Center.

Also in attendance was Senator Clyde Chambliss, Representative Kelvin Lawrence, Autauga County Commission Chairman Jay Thompson, Probate Judge Kim Kervin, as well as ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell, ADSS Commissioner Jean Brown, and CARPDC Executive Director Greg Clark.

According to a press release from the Autauga County Commission, Town Mayor Curtis Stoudemire shared his thoughts about the occasion with those who had gathered.

“We are thankful we are here today,” he said. “Today has been a long time coming, but through prayers, [faith], and hard work, today has come to provision.”

Kenneth Boswell, ADECA Director, also shared his thoughts.

“On behalf of Governor Kay Ivey, I am certainly happy to be back in Autaugaville. Our senior citizens [are] wells of wisdom,” he said. “To our seniors that are here, thank you for what you’ve done and thank you for what you are going to do in our future.”

ADSS Commissioner Jean Brown said, “It is so vitally important to our seniors that you be able to gather. We do value our senior adults for everything they contribute to our society.”

The new Senior Center, which will be located at 2407 Dutch Bend Street in Autaugaville, across the street from the current facility, is estimated to be completed in the spring of 2023.
