Taylor Gloystein named PHS National Merit Finalist; ACBOE honors Students with Band, Choir and Military Signees

Autauga County students who are going into the military after graduation were celebrated at the Board of Education meeting Thursday.

A large crowd came together Thursday at Prattville High School to celebrate the accomplishments of many of the county’s students as well as the school board holding their regular meeting to deal with important school business.

After the official start of the meeting, Superintendent Tim Tidmore addressed the crowd of parents and school staff, calling student Taylor Gloystein to come forward to the front of the room and letting the group know how exciting it is when the board gets to recognize students.

“This is probably one of the best kinds of board meetings we get to have because we’re recognizing lots of students for their accomplishments,” Tidmore said. “Taylor, who is from Prattville High School, is our National Merit finalist. She’s been awarded the National Merit Raytheon Scholarship.”

After applause for Gloystein, the next group of students to be recognized were All-State Choral students and All-State and All-District Band students.

The following students from each school were recognized during the ceremony:

After the recognition and applause for the students, Tidmore expressed his appreciation to everyone, saying, “It’s important that the board sees the number of students that we have that are participating or excelling in the fine arts or other extra-curricular, so I appreciate all the good work that our directors and choir leaders do.” 

Dr. Rachel Surles, who heads Federal Programs, Assessment and Accountability for Autauga County Schools, then called up all of the students who will be going into the military after graduation for recognition.

In referring to some of the parents that she spoke with in preparation for the recognition, Surles commented, “I went through the same thing some of you parents are going through three years ago so I understand.”

After the student recognition, the approval of agenda items included the YMCA Summer and School Year Agreement, Marbury High School Ag Equipment, a Military Flexible Enrollment Revision, the Personnel Report and Employee Report and a few comments by Tidmore after which, the meeting was adjourned.
