SEHS Softball Boosters Hosting Hit-A-Thon Jan. 29 as Fundraiser for Program

ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS

The Stanhope Elmore Softball Booster Club is hosting a Hit-A-Thon on Jan. 29 beginning at 10 a.m. at the softball field.

Team members who raise the most money get a prize, as well as baseball top hitters, Top Parent and Spectator.

But this isn’t about the prizes. It is about raising fund to build the softball program for the Lady Mustangs.

“Our Softball program does not receive any financial help through the County/State School Systems. This means that all monies to run our program come from each player and/or by donations and sponsors,” a statement reads from the Softball Booster Club. “To run a softball program this means that liabilities are paid for by our players and by donations. The softball program pays for all practice balls, electric, water, uniforms and maintenance of the fields.”

The Club said there are several things that need to be done to the field.

“While we are working on getting the fields cleaned up and ready for this upcoming softball school year, we are also wanting to start saving funds to upgrade our batting cages. This is so our softball players and visitors are always safe and not worried about their own safety while in the batting cages.”

The Booster Club has been writing to potential sponsors, asking them to help make a difference. They are asking that anyone who can, please consider donating $20 to the softball program. The support is critical to the completion of upgrades.

Each player will get two rounds of ten cut. They can be sponsored by anyone. Donations can be per hit and per home run. Two coaches will be keeping up with hits and homeruns.

Organizers will tally everything up after the event is complete. Each player will be represented. For example, if a player is hurt or cannot be there, she can still get sponsored by having a pinch-hitter take her swings.

After all softball players have hit, the team is challenging the Varsity Baseball team to get sponsors as well. They can pay $10 for five swings or $20 for three minutes. Any money donated to baseball players will be split 50/50 between the Softball Booster Club and Baseball Booster Club.

Then it will be open to anyone else to take swings and give live donations for each person. The same will go for baseball. Please bring your own bat. If a player allows you to use their bat, the softball team is not responsible for any damages to the bat.

Baseball players have to pre-pay. No player can be added after the 10 a.m. start time.

Please do not park behind the softball field. The softball team will not be held responsible for any damages if you park behind the field.

There will be a concession stand serving hamburgers or hotdog combos. This includes chips and a 20-ounce drink.

Attendance to this event is free. But please bring a donation of water or Gatorade for the girls’ season for admission!

Anyone is allowed to attend and participate. Let’s make this a fun event for the teams and enjoy a fun day of softball.
