A Wetumpka man was arrested Thursday night by the Wetumpka Police Department and has been charged with violation of license to carry and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

Correy Gardner, 27, was allegedly driving a vehicle near McDonalds on US 231 Thursday night when there was a reported road rage incident with another vehicle, according to Assistant Wetumpka Police Chief Ed Reeves.

Two people in the other vehicle were fortunately not hit by the gunfire. The people in that vehicle were able to get a tag number of the vehicle and keep the car within sight as they called law enforcement.

“Gardner followed them up to Company Street and fired two rounds, one of which struck their vehicle. (The victims) were able to get a tag number and keep eyes on vehicle. They called us and stayed on the phone with dispatch. We were able to catch up to Gardner around Chapel Road.”

Gardner was booked into the Elmore County Jail at 8:25 p.m. Bond has been set at $10,500.
