CrimeStoppers Offers Reward for Information Concerning Guns in Schools

FROM TONY GARRETT

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CENTRAL ALABAMA CRIMESTOPPERS

By guaranteeing a caller’s anonymity, Central Alabama CrimeStoppers allows a citizen to give information in a positive atmosphere without the prospect of retribution. By offering cash rewards for information leading to indictment or arrests, CrimeStoppers has proven itself to be a successful tool in fighting crime.

Between 2012 through 2020, Central Alabama CrimeStoppers received tips from students that have resulted in the confiscation of more than 200 guns on school campuses, 140 arrests on school campuses, and 179 criminal charges filed where the offenses occurred on a school campus or after the school-sanctioned event.

To reduce crime in schools and empower students to take part in maintaining a safe learning environment, Central Alabama CrimeStoppers continues its Scholastic Reward Program. This program offers a reward to anyone who turns in any individual(s) involved in an activity that they deem to be a danger to the students or staff on any public or private school campus.

CrimeStoppers continues our collaboration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to offer cash rewards of up to $500 for any tips that lead to the confiscation of a gun on school grounds, including after school-sanctioned events.

If you or a student has information about a crime on a school campus, you are urged to contact Law Enforcement or Central Alabama CrimeStoppers. Downloading our P3-tips app is preferred because the P3-tips app allows us to ask follow-up questions to ensure that Law Enforcement has all the necessary information needed for an accurate and safe response. The P3-tips app dialogs with students concerning bullying, theft, robbery, drugs, guns, and attempted suicide. You can also give information by dialogue via the web at www.215STOP.com

Our 24-hour tip lines are always working at 334-215-STOP (7867) or toll free 800 number, 1-833-AL1-STOP.

Central Alabama CrimeStoppers continues to expand throughout the Great State of Alabama. We are a small non-profit that relies on media outlets to share with the public how everyday citizens, whether youth, adult, or senior citizen can be empowered to fight crime.  See Something, Say Something.
