Prattville Has Variety of Sights, Sounds and New Adventures for the Holiday Season

Christmas decorations are already popping up across Prattville.

Editor’s Note: This article is a general wrap up of Prattville activities for Christmas. We will have a separate article concerning the ice rink coming up as well. There is a lot of excitement about ice skating this year in historic downtown Prattville. The EAN will be highlighting activities throughout our readership.

Want to enjoy the Christmas season, have some fun and enjoy beautiful decorations that make Prattville look and feel like you’ve stepped into a Hallmark movie? You can ice skate, watch a parade, hear a concert or watch a play.  It’s a place to make family memories.

Here are just a few of the things going on in Prattville this holiday season:

December 2- Annual Lighting of the City’s 30-foot Christmas Tree- The City of Prattville will kick off the holiday season with its Christmas tree lighting on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. Enjoy a casual come and go experience from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. as Historic Downtown Prattville transforms into a Winter Wonderland. Stay on Santa’s nice list and remember to practice social distancing.

December 2-30 Ice Skating Sessions – The cost for ice skating will be $5 and this includes skate rental. This includes a 30-minute skate session. Only 25 people are allowed on the ice at one time. No private bookings can be made this year. Skating tickets will be sold first come, first-served for each time slot.

You can purchase hot chocolate, water, cookies, and popcorn at the rink, but no food is permitted on the “ice.” For additional food options, explore Downtown Prattville and its restaurants and coffee shops.

December 3- January 3, 2022 – Autauga Creek Christmas Trail – Come enjoy the Christmas trees along Autauga Creek. This is a fundraiser for the Family Support Center in Prattville. Various businesses sponsor and decorate trees along the walk. For more information, call 334-361-4747.

December 3 – Christmas Parade -Prattville’s Annual Christmas Parade will roll out from the Autauga County Courthouse at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 3. Lights, marching bands, dancers, candy, beads and trinkets will be abundant as the parade travels through downtown Prattville, with the jolly old elf himself making a visit to Prattville. This year’s parade has 75 entries. 

Handicapped citizens can park at Trustmark Bank and signs will be put up asking that citizens leave this area for them to view the parade.

December 9-12 & 16-19: Way Off Broadway Theatre’s production of The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon  – Prattville’s Way Off Broadway Theatre presents its Christmas play, The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon, which will open on Thursday, December 9, and will run Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 9-12 and 16-19. This hilarious spoof on holiday movies will be fun for the entire family. Tickets are $10 each and reservations are required. December 10- Prattville Pops Concert – The Prattville Pops is proud to present their Annual Christmas Concert on Friday, December 10, at 7 p.m. at the Doster Community Center in Prattville. The concert, themed “A Thankful Christmas,” will feature a variety of holiday and other heartfelt classics performed by the Pops Concert Band. Bring your singing voice to help the Pops with an audience friendly sing-a-long.  The concert is free and open to the public and is a wonderful opportunity for families to spend time together enjoying this very special time of year. 

The concert is free, but guests are asked to bring non-perishable food items for donation to the Autauga Interfaith Care Center. These donations will help to fill the shelves of the food bank during the busy holiday season and make the holidays better for those in need.

An amazing amount of hard work and planning with make a trip to downtown Prattville exciting for young and old this year.

December 11- Make A Gingerbread House– Event is from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Autauga-Prattville Public Library. The library will provide enough supplies for 100 houses. Voting will last one week and the winners will be announced on December 20th.

December 13- Deadline for Mailing Letters to Santa – Santa’s mailbox is at the Autauga Prattville Public Library. The Library will provide stationery and art supplies so that children can get their lists in with plenty of time to spare before Christmas. All letters mailed before the deadline will get a response from the big guy himself.

December 14- A Main Street Christmas – The City of Prattville will be dressed up and ready to greet you and your family and friends at the 6th Annual A Main Street Christmas event on Tuesday, December 14, in the historic Downtown District from 5-7:30 p.m. The City is partnering with the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce and the merchants of downtown again this year for this fun, family-friendly event.

Santa will be visiting on Main Street at the Creekwalk Pocket Park. Children can drop off letters to Santa in a special mailbox near his sleigh. There will be take home ornament kits for children sponsored by the Prattauga Art Guild. There will be horse-drawn carriage rides again this year, but expect longer waits because rides will be limited. The Prattville Community Chorus will be caroling along the street and the ice-skating rink will be open from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Local dance troupes will entertain crowds in front of City Hall.

The Prattville Chamber of Commerce will give away a “Love What’s Local” basket filled with a variety of items from downtown merchants and cash. Get an entry for the prize with receipts from each different store that you visit. Merchants in the Downtown District will be open late for Christmas shopping, and if you are hungry or thirsty, there will be several businesses open for a meal, snack, or beverage.

December 16- Christmas Variety Show – Thursday, Dec. 16 @ 7 p.m. at the Doster Center.  The second annual Christmas Variety Show will feature local and regional talent and is fun for the entire family. There will be music, dancing, and lots of fun. For more information contact the Special Events office at 334-595-0850. 

December 17-Milk and Cookies with Santa– Friday, December 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Doster Center. Come at your leisure and enjoy cookies, crafts and Santa.

December 18th– Snowflake Workshop – The Prattauga Art Guild will host free snowflake art workshops on December 18th at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. for children ages 7-12. To sign up your child or for more information, call 334-595-0850. The workshop will be held at the Prattville Creative Arts Center at 342 South Chestnut St. behind City Hall in downtown Prattville.
