Holtville High School Celebrates Homecoming Week! Game is Friday against Talladega

FROM TATUM NORTHINGTON

HOLTVILLE HIGH SCHOOL

Homecomings across the nation are a tradition of high schools, colleges, and small hometowns,  welcoming back former students and focusing on uplifting and supporting the school. At Holtville High School, it is no different; a tradition where the whole school and community come together to celebrate the school and town for the entire week with fun activities to get ready for Friday Night Lights.

This Friday, Holtville will be taking on Talladega. But, there is so much more happening all week long. Homecoming is the time to support the school in showing school spirit by participating in dress up days, building floats and watching the parade, cheering on our 11th and 12th graders in Powder Puff, and culminating the week by coming out to watch the game. Throughout this week, September 13-17 we will build up our school spirit by participating in the activities Mrs. Rogers and the Student Government Association have planned. “The Sound of Slapout” is the homecoming theme this year, as well as the theme for the school year.

For each day of this year’s homecoming week there is a different dress up day theme for the students.. Dress up days help build school spirit and get students excited about school spirit, the week’s festivities and the football game. Each day is centered around different songs and music. Monday’s theme was “The Lazy Song.” Students wore pajamas or comfy lounging clothes. On Tuesday, the theme was “Small Town USA”, or country day. Everyone dressed in their best country attire or as their favorite country artist.

Wednesday’s dress up day is “U Can’t Touch This,” where students can dress as one of their favorite 90s artists or in 90s style clothing. Thursday’s theme will be “Sweet Home Alabama” –  college colors day. And Friday will be “Who Let the Dogs Out” which is for students to go all out in their Bulldog Spirit attire!

Not only is Holtville High School getting pumped for the official Homecoming game, we are also hosting a Powder Puff game, a homecoming parade, and homecoming lawn decorations. The Powder Puff game is sure to entertain as we have the Junior girls vs the Senior girls in flag football and the Junior boys vs the Senior boys in cheerleading. The game starts at 6, but festivities will begin at 5. Three food truck vendors and others will be at the stadium selling food prior to the game.

There will be a Bulldog Pride Parade held at Holtville High on Friday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m.. Participants in the parade will include the football team, band, cheerleaders, members of the homecoming court, and several other school organizations. We encourage all members of the community to attend and support! Our parade will be a blast and the lawn decorations are sure to impress. The week ends with the football game against Talladega on Friday night. Homecoming Court will be presented pre-game, so be sure to get to the stadium before 6:30 p.m.

We hope to see everyone come out and support our school this week!! Go Bulldogs!
