Search Continues for Missing Man on Lake Martin; Multiple Agencies involved in Search

TALLAPOOSA COUNTY — The search continues for a missing Colorado man who was involved in a single-vessel accident which occurred on Lake Martin yesterday at approximately 1 p.m. The man has been identified as Zachary Dakota Lewis, 24, of Parker, Colo. Lewis was boating with a group of friends near the Big Kowaliga Creek on Lake Martin close to the Willow Point Golf Course when he exited the vessel and disappeared beneath the water’s surface. A multitude of law enforcement and rescue agencies searched for Lewis until 2 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3 and then resumed the search again at 8 a.m. Alexander City Rescue Squad, Alexander City Fire Department, Alexander City Police Department, Childersburg Rescue Squad, Daphne Search & Rescue, New Site Police Department, TowBoat U.S., Alex City Guide Service and Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division and ALEA’s Aviation Unit have all assisted in search efforts to locate Lewis.

Troopers with the Marine Patrol Division are asking boaters on Lake Martin to avoid the area near Big Kowaliga Creek close to the Willow Point Golf Course while the search is underway. If boaters must pass through the area, Troopers are asking that they do so at idle speed until further notice. Nothing further is available as Troopers with ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division continue to investigate.
