BY SARAH STEPHENS

ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS

This is just a small sample of what has already been donated to The Gab Salon of Wetumpka, thanks to the efforts of Donna Poeppelmeier organizing the event. Donations will be accepted today at the Dollar Tree of Wetumpka, and at The Gab Salon Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Saturday, volunteers will be accepting donations for Hurricane Ida victims at the Dollar Tree in Wetumpka from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (See list of what is accepted below.)

The Gab Salon of Wetumpka will also be accepting donations Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Donna Poeppelmeier is helping to head up this donation drive, and thanked The Gab Salon and Dollar Tree for their assistance.

“We have had a huge response to drop offs at The Gab so far,” Poepplemeier told the EAN. “We just want to do something to help these people impacted by the hurricane.”

Some of those who have already donated included special messages to those who will receive the donations. It is words of encouragement during a horrendous time. Poepplemeier is so grateful, and asks the community to continue donating what they can to those in need.

“Thank you so much for your help/donations. It will make a difference to those in need,” Poeppelmeier said.

Poeppelmeier said she is also interested in hearing from evacuees who are staying in the surrounding area. If there is a particular need she will do everything she can to help them. The Elmore/Autauga News is happy to assist in the venture as well.

Keep in mind a lot of these families currently staying in local hotels are not being allowed to go home. Many areas are still without power and water, and some of their homes could have damage. They are incurring unexpected expenses and in most cases are having to eat out. We have heard from several area hotels that confirm there are a lot of evacuees in our area.

If you know of any evacuees with specific needs, please contact the us at editorsarah@yahoo.com.
