HandsOn River Region Marks 20th Anniversary of 9/11 with Memorial Weekend of Service

MONTGOMERY, AL, September 1, 2021 – September 11, 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that shocked and changed our great nation forever.  In the days and weeks that followed, the country came together in an unprecedented spirit of community and commitment.  HandsOn River Region will oversee volunteer activity at area nonprofits and schools during a 9-11 Memorial Weekend of Service to promote service on this day and beyond.

Projects will take place on Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11 at a number of sites – in a school, on the farm, at a community garden and a senior center. This community-wide volunteer event will benefit the staff, clients and students of Successful Living Center, Thelma Smiley Morris and Blount Elementary Schools, Old Cloverdale Community Garden and EAT South. The schedule is as follows:

Friday, September 10, 2021, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm at Thelma Smiley Morris Elementary School (801 Hill St, Montgomery, AL 36108)

Saturday, September 11, 2021, 8:00 am – 10:00 am at EAT South (425 Molton St, Montgomery, AL 36104)

Saturday, September 11, 2021, 8:45 am – 10:45 am at Blount Elementary School (1650 Ray Thorington Rd, Montgomery, AL 36117)

Saturday, September 11, 2021, 9:00 am – 11:00 am at Old Cloverdale Community Garden (1128 Woodward Ave, Montgomery, AL 36106)

Saturday, September 11, 2021, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm at Successful Living Center (1902 Bullard St, Montgomery, AL 36106)
